John Wilson - FacultyProfessor John B. Wilson heads the program in Scenic Design and also teaches Scenic Painting and Historical Styles. Prior to SF State, he was Assistant Professor of Design at Stanford University for nine years.

His professional credits in the Bay Area include designs for A.C.T., Berkeley Rep., San Jose Rep., A.M.T., Theatreworks, The Magic Theatre, Artists Confronting AIDS, S.F. Opera Center, regional Shakespeare festivals, and many others. Nationally, Wilson’s design work extends to New York City, Chicago, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Houston, and elsewhere.

Wilson has received numerous Bay Area Critics Circle and Hollywood Drama-Logue Awards, as well as the Theatre L.A. Ovation Award, the Back Stage West Garland Award, and the Barbara Bladen Porter Award for continued Creative Excellence. He has been member of United Scenic Artists Local 829 since 1982.
